Basra Bunker
BASRA Bunker
The Basra Bunker project represents a strategic partnership between the United Refineries Company for the Transport of Petroleum Products Ltd. and the General Company for Maritime Transport. Its goal is to establish a floating station that supplies operational fuel to ships and supertankers within Iraqi territorial waters. This initiative aims to enhance maritime services and increase the capacity of Iraqi ports, thereby strengthening the government’s role in supporting maritime trade.
Operation of the Floating Station
The station is supplied with industrial oils and surplus oil derivatives, which are refined and converted into high-quality fuel that meets international standards. This fuel is used to power ships entering Iraqi ports or passing through territorial waters.
Key Objectives of the Project
- Increase employment in the maritime sector.
- Standardize processing operations to improve maritime security and reduce smuggling.
- Boost the local economy by sourcing products domestically and creating more job opportunities.
- Enhance competition in fuel pricing by reducing reliance on imports.
